EASE OF LIVING INDEX
The Ease
of living Index released by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs provides a holistic
assessment of cities based in India on their efforts to make a better environment for
people to live under, provide better infrastructure and also addresses challenges
of urbanization. A revised edition of Ease of Living Index was published in
2019, February.
When interviewed a few citizens of Bangalore they had to say that the Ease of Living Index has been beneficial in some ways such as working area is better, in certain areas the roads are better, but some did not feel that this Index had been beneficial since town planning is not efficient and the roads is in an uneven condition. Also people had to quote that "in order of doing the city better it is causing a lot of damage in return to the citizens. Such as these days there is metro coming up and flyovers are being built which is causing pollution and reducing the number of trees." Medical facilities have improved quite a lot by having better hospitals which has good infrastructure.
Urban India is very large and diversified in terms of size, number, culture and administration. Though the index is a good benchmark to examine the level of services and quality of life, it does not consider the level of urban decentralization in terms of finances, functions and capacities.
