A fur ball: Ups and downs of a pet parent

#1: The birth of the fur ball-

It was a morning which had the sun shining and emitting a lot of heat since it was summertime. This was the 4th of April 2015 a normal day wherein there was a lot of bustle in my house. My neighbor had brought home a beautiful, snow looking Persian cat. This Persian cat littered and from that a cat  had littered it’s first batch of squeaky, tiny kittens in my mother’s cupboard on the morning of 4th April. My little fur ball was born from the litter the Persian cat had given. The first look I had of it I went gaga over it and was overwhelmed. I convinced my parents for us to keep the batch of kittens. Slowly except the black fur ball all of them died due to various reasons. This was the day the journey of me becoming a pet parent started.

#2: Quality time is the most precious gem you can think of with one’s loved ones. This is the time I cherish the most and will continue to do so…….

When blacky was born (it is quite obvious why this name was given, but later she had multicolor fur so, you might think why I did not change it. It is because she was used to ‘Blacky’) she looked like the size of a hamster whom I would carry in my palms all around the house, keep her on my bed, study table, and at times on my books as well (do not think I would not study due to the distractions. I was a studious girl). The clock ticked, time flew by and she became bigger and bigger and we spent a lot of time together. We played together on my garden with her favorite smiley ball, thread, stones etc. Blacky would and still comes and sits beside me while studying, sleeping sitting on the bed, etc. There are so many more moments to cherish.

#3 Sleepless nights: A phase all pet parents go through at some point of time-

This problem occurs mainly with cats since they are very socially active in their nature. They like to go out at odd times during the night and come in at odd times. The time mating season occurs it is a cause of worry since one never knows when the female cat will become a dog’s tail and go behind the tom cat. So, one day a cat came with its two kittens and decided to make the roof of my house its house. Since my cat is very rigid about her territory, she fought with the mother cat who decided to go and get some food for the kittens. Since my nature is to worry and most of the time, I used to hear the cat scream I used to go running down to see if my Blacky is alright. Any time a cat screams my heart beats 10 times faster since I do not want anything to happen to my baby.

#4. The overnight visit which nearly gave me a panic attack-

One day my father came home and informed me that one of his friends had lost her cat due to some infection and at the same moment the rumor was that the Parvo virus had infected many cats. At the same moment my cat also became very sick and weak wherein she would not eat food nor drink water. She was puking continuously and at this point nothing was running on my mind except that she had caught the deadly Parvovirus which was said to take the animal’s life within 24 hours. That particular night was an unforgettable night for me. Blacky showed a slight difficulty in breathing, and at this time I lost my mind, and my heart sank as the only news would be my cat was on the verge of death. My mom and I rushed Blacky to the hospital and the drive was the most terrifying one since blacky sat so quietly in the basket that I thought she was dead, she stopped breathing, but thankfully that did not happen. We reached the hospital and gave her medications and the doctor said that it was nothing to worry about.

#5 Wrong medication: The last thing a pet parent would not want-

There was a small patch of skin which looked infected on my cat’s shoulder so we decided to take her to the vet. He said there was nothing to worry. After few days the patch appeared to be a wound and when we showed it he said it was signs of a fungal infection and gave medicines. Without a break medication was given but no signs of improvement were seen. So, we showed her again and an ointment was given to apply. I applied this also for a long period but no improvement, rather the wound started to worsen, and I was worried as to why this is not healing. It had been almost 2 months since blacky was roaming around with the wound. A few days ago, I took her to the vet had said the ointment which was being applied was of no use at all and gave her fresh set of ointments to which there are signs of the wound healing.
